The statues of the former Azerbaijani president Heydar Aliyev and the incumbent first lady of the country Mehriban Aliyeva are displaced from Canada, Armenpress informs linking the report of the member of Public office of Canadian government Hasan Savtarov to the Azaldlge paper.
This was done by the authorities of the city Niagara on See Lake, who noted that they are “monuments of dictatorship”. The decision was taken on the grounds that the Azerbaijani opposition has started a campaign and presented applications to the city council. One of the applications say “Today world is struggling against dictatorship and placing the statue of such a dictator as Aliyev in Canada, is a serious harm to the prestige of Canada.”
“Aliyev is no different from Saddam, Mubarak, Kaddafi, Assad. That is why we ask the Public office of Canada to send back the statues to Azerbaijan.” –it is written in the application.
The statues were installed in September last year.
