The Armenian community is worried in the Lebanese Tripoli city. The repetitions of Syrian events are not excluded here. There are already clashes between two opponents and proponents of Syrian government.
Though the Armenian community is small in Tripoli, and it is situated 100km from Beirut, anyhow people are worried and afraid.
“1in.am News and Analysis” had an interview with deputy chairman of Social democrat Hnchakyan Party Aleqsan Qeoshkeryan about the situation in Lebanon. He mentioned that such clashes are usual for Tripoli.”This are old district and inner problems, they may have some political pretext but are in no way government-opposition clashes.” – said Qeoshkeryan. “The Lebanese army is there and does everything to control the situation.” –he said.
Aleqsan Qeoshkeryan denied that the events going on in Lebanon are connected to Syrian civil war. “We are far from such situation yet. There is certainly a problem, but the authorities don’t encourage clashes and try to limit the events and don’t let mass start clashes”, he stressed.
The expert of French Strategic investigations fund, political analyst Kayc Minasyan finds possible that events in Lebanon can be sharpened. “If the situation in Syria becomes even more difficult, it can influence Lebanon’s stability as well.” – he said to “1in.am News and Analysis”.
The member of “Sardarapat” initiative group, former Lebanese-Armenian Aleq Enigomshyan” said in the interview with “1in.am News and Analysis that the events of Lebanon are connected to those in Syria. “Lebanon is vulnerable country by itself, where there are representatives of different religions and it is easily affected by outer environment.”- said Enigomishyan. Though Armenians of Tripoli will be influenced by the clashes, they will not be the target group. They are not endangered.
Enigomishyan noticed that events of Middle East affect negatively the Armenian communities. “As a result of instable situation in Middle East during the last 30-40 years, thousands of Armenians have emigrated mainly to West. Now when the situation is tense again, there is a psychological state of leaving the countries. They prefer West, because the incumbent regime of Armenia is not able to accept them.”- he said.
He is sure that that hardly they would like to come to Armenia. He feels sorry, because in West the allegation is speedier. “The Armenian communities of Middle East will gradually wear out. And Armenia instead of welcoming them, leads an opposite policy.”- he mentioned.
