Recent discussions on Armenia-EU cooperation have taken a different stance directly stating that Armenia has to choose between either EU or “EurAsEs”.
Trian Hristea, the EU ambassador to Armenia directly stated Armenia has to choose either of the two. Later Maya Kochiyanich, the speaker of the spokesman to the EU foreign affairs announced if Armenia chooses CU, the cooperation with the EU will be impossible. Political scientist Aleksander Shatilov stated these announcements have dual character and the EU warnings to Armenia are indirectly targeted to Russia. He stated even though the announcements are directed towards Armenia, they are aimed at distorting the Russian policy of CU. Shatilov concluded no matter what exogeneous pressures happen, no outer force has the right to intervene into the sovereignty of a state. Armenia has to develop relations with both aspects.
