“The Elections hasn’t started yet, not all the candidates have been nominated, and it is impossible to say if there is going to be a united candidate or not. Another thing is that it doesn’t seem so.” said leader of National-Democratic Union Vazgen Manukyan in “Banadzev” program on Armnews channel, who has been the united candidate of the presidential elections in 1996. He says, that the atmosphere about the united candidate has been changed, since Gagik Tsarukyan refused to put his candidacy.
Vazgen Manukyan also thinks that before the elections all the forces have consulted and their main aim is not only the candidate. However, he doesn’t agree with the saying that the parties are ready to cooperate even with the devil. “I don’t accept political cynicism.”
At the time being, Vazgen Manukyan can foresee the results of the elections. “During the presidential elections, President usually wants to strengthen his power, and there appears another person in the opposition, who people see as a savior. In this case, I cannot see a savior. I don’t want to talk bad about Raffi Honhannissian, but I don’t think that he is the savior.” said Manukyan.
Talking about Armenian Revolutionary Party (Dashnakcutyun) Manukyan stated that this party has a serious political power and understands that the proposed candidate will get little percentage. About ANC, he said that the Congress has been created for solving some particular issues. If such bodies do not succeed, then they collide.
Vazgen Manukyan noted that if there aren’t surprises in this conditions, it doesn’t mean, that there won’t be any. And the most important thing is that what will happen after the elections.
