Musa Mikayelyan in his political analysis highlights the historical event that took place on November 29, namely the Soviet Army invasion into the first Republic of Armenia after which the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia commenced its existence.
70 years afterwards Armenia managed to get back its freedom which was acquired along with the war in Nagorno Karabakh. The country won the war but lost itself and lost in the game with Russia too.
In 2012, November 29 we are in a dangerous stand, because we can speak of the Soviet times not in the past, but in the future. Putin does his best to restore the once Soviet Union under the name of the Eurasian Union at the same time making efforts to include Armenia, the government of which is not very willing to. Russia keeps on pressing especially using the presidential elections as a tool.
Mikayelyan states the power of Russia in this particular case is the alliance of ANC-PAP-ARF which is a means to threaten Serzh Sargsyan be deprived of his presidency and agree to become part of the Eurasian Union.
Mikayelyan concludes it is not clear what Russia’s game will end with but that November 29 is a day to be marked on the calendar must be of consideration to Armenia and that Armenia must follow its own values of liberty and self-government.
