“There are pre-electoral elements in this, because in the pre-electoral stage they revive the program, which seems to have already started, based on their promises. According to their pre-electoral program in 2007 nuclear power plant construction program should have started earlier. Now, they say, it will be built in 2014. In any case, it is obvious that it is connected with the elections.” said ANC Representative Erjanik Abgaryan, commenting on the Prime Minister’s statement about 50 percent of Moscow’s investment in the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Armenia.
Recall that the Prime Minister gave an interview to the “Interfax” news agency, reminding Russian and Armenian community that “we do not have a problem with Russia, as well as informing them that Russia will finance 50 percent of the new nuclear power plant in Armenia.”
It is obvious that the Prime Minister’s readiness to transfer 50 percent of Armenia’s nuclear power plant to Russia, moreover to “Rosatom” does not only have economic, but also political objectives in the pre-election period. 50 percent of Russia’s participation would mean that the RF will have similar rights in Armenia’s nuclear power plant, as the RA government.
Erjanik Abgaryan referring to the supporting – non-support script of the ANC likely candidate Levon Ter-Petrossian, he announced the following, “Levon Ter-Petrosyan is for normal relations with Russia, but the governance of Ter-Petrossian would not take such steps to retain power. I think that Russia will support Serzh Sargsyan.”
ANC representative believes that the proposed option of new nuclear power plant construction by the prime minister “is not in the best interests of Armenia.” “If we are building a new plant, it should be our own property. If there is a question of loans, let them solve the problem, but not look for an owner.” said Erjanik Abgaryan.
