ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan announced today during a press conference that all the necessary signatures are gathered and tomorrow, November 21, a special session of the National Assembly will be held for making amendments to the Electoral Code.
L. Zurabyan also noted that except the political parties, a number of non-governmental organizations joined to demand a special session.
“If we manage to make all the transformations at tomorrow’s special meeting, then we can restore people’s faith in elections. Before presidential elections took place a serious political consolidation around this issue. In addition to the Congress, who was the initiator of making radical changes in the system, the PAP, ARF and “Heritage” also joined it.
The ruling party, in fact, is the only one that used all its efforts to resist the change. The ruling party does not want Armenia to have free and fair elections.”
Answering the question what is the purpose of the special meeting, if it is already clear that the Republican Party will not provide a quorum, Zurabyan said. “We must compel the authorities to do what people and the international community wants. Democratic countries act this way to achieve their goals.”
