On Tuesday countries participating in the North Atlantic alliance met the Turkish request to the supply that country with Patriot modern air defense systems.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that in Turkey Patriot will be used for protection from stray shells, flying from neighboring Syria. According to him, NATO has no intention to set “no-fly zone” over Syria.
If this position changes for some reason, Turkey will be able to shoot down any aircraft and helicopters over the significant part of the Syrian territory.
“The negotiations have entered the final stage and will soon be completed. This will not take long,” – said the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
It was also reported that the soldiers of Germany may take part in the NATO mission in Turkey in the near future. In this framework of the NATO operation Bundeswehr will send to Turkey one or two sub-units, operating rocket launchers.
Recall that Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that NATO forces are ready to do everything necessary to ensure the safety of one of its members – Turkey.
