“Nor Yaraj” of France reports Pasadena AGBU invited the former ambassador of the US to Israel and Syria, previously an MFA adviser and the president of the “James Baker” public and political examination institute of Rays University Eduard Djeredjian to speak on the Arab spring, Turkey’s role in the region, the future of the Armenian in the Middle East.
Djeredjian encouraged the Armenian diaspora to support the democratic reforms in Armenia which will boost the economy. He stated that the corrupted system in the country, immigration and other vital issues are the result of the blockade by Azerbaijan and Turkey. Djeredjian highly appreciated the US engagement in the region stating that Russia cannot be fully relied on and if one day it changes its interests, Armenia will not benefit from it. Djeredjian’s statements on the future of Armenia were not positive at all. He said Armenia should return the “occupied” territories otherwise Azerbaijan would start a war and that this time the war would have a tragic ending for the Armenian side. He even predicted the year – 2014. The expert said time does not work for the Armenians and highlighted president Obama’s engagement in the situation because the OSCE Minsk group has already expired itself completely.
Djeredjian mentioned the importance of having diplomatic relations with Turkey as the latter is the leader in the region and Armenia cannot last long in the current situation. He urged to open the borders with Turkey knowing that Armenia was the initiator of the negotiations and it was Turkey that did not stick to the agreement. He said the problem can have only one solution: when all the facts (including the historical ones) are put on the table.
As a conclusion, there is a great concern whether this person can be regarded an independent expert. By all means the points regarding Armenia cast doubts and are disturbing.
