Bagrat Estukyan, the editor in chief of “Agos” newspaper in Istanbul, expressed his view on the diaspora frustrated attitude towards both the government and the opposition. Estukyan stated the diaspora is interested in the political developments of the country but is not capable of interfering and said he did not possess very good knowledge on the internal political life of Armenia and that is natural since he does not live in Armenia. The editor spoke about the devastating events in 2008 which were aimed at an attempt to establish democracy but turned out to destroy any value Armenia had had.
According to Estukyan the political parties in Armenia are no different from each other and all of them completely lack political ideology and are based solely on the oligarchic system.
Estukyan highlighted the foreign influence on the internal political life of Armenia and he believed the “violet” and “orange” revolutions or March 1st events are not solely a result of intrastate turbulences. Here the interests of big and small countries collapse.
Estukyan concluded his speech by absolutely being against the diaspora intervening into Armenia’s political life and that the Armenians should be independent in their decision making process. Armenia must establish its democracy and not ask other countries to establish it for them.
