On November 9 National Assembly Vice President Edward Sharmazanov received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Greece Ioanis Tayis.
The Vice President welcomed the Ambassador of Greece, congratulated him on his appointment and expressed hope that he would promote the further development of bilateral relations.
Expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, the Ambassador Ioanis Tayis conditioned the possibility of dynamic development the ancient Armenian and Greek friendship, common civilization and existence of Armenian communities in Greece and Greek communities in Armenia.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects for relations between the parliaments, the activation of the activities of parliamentary committees and mutual visits, Greek support for Armenia in the issue of integration and other issues of regional security.
The Vice President expressed his gratitude for the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, for the steps of Greece, for providing a balanced approach in the NKR process.
Speaking of the main issue of NKR, Edward Sharmazanov ensured that Armenia is on the side of international norms in favor of resolving the issue through peaceful negotiations, while Azerbaijan does not refuse its racist politics, taking into account the last extradition of killer Safarov and justification as a hero, which was against international legal norms.
The Ambassador assured that Greece supports and will continue to support the peace negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement within the Minsk Group.
At the meeting they also touched upon the upcoming presidential election. “Armenia has crucial intention on democratic reforms and on the issue of their continuation,” said Edward Sharmazanov.
