The former FM of Armenia, PAP member Vartan Oskanian wrote about disturbing statistics of foreign investment on his Facebook page.
“One of the most worrying macroeconomic statistics is the fall of foreign investment. In comparison with the first term of the previous year, the investment decreased by 40%, because every investor first of all pays attention to economic growth, inflation, state debt, foreign trade etc.”
Oskanian notes that there are factors out of economy. “Lately I have spoken to quite wealthy and smart Syrian Armenians, who do want to make investment in Armenia, but face serious problems. First of all they see no prospective and hope in Armenia, whereas this must be provided by the state.”
Oskanian elaborates the other causes of their fear to invest in Armenia. “Uncertainty is another reason. Both legal field and expectations are vague. Justice is the wish of everybody, and every investor is afraid that he will face some problems on political grounds. The investors also need peace and stability. Azerbaijan gets new weapons, it has strengthened the military rhetoric, and the truce on fronts is deviated more frequently. These are serious threats for investors.”
