“UK wants OSCE Minsk Group negotiations restore peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, UK Minister of State David Lidington noted this at the joint press conference with Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian. Lidington stated that both Great Britain and the European Union are interested in the peaceful solution of the conflict. Responding to the question whether British oil investments in Azerbaijan may hinder negotiations providing Azerbaijan with resources to increase military spending, Lidington mentioned “the fact Azerbaijan has significant British investment talks to the fact Great Britain is interested in peace in the region. This territory is not just another point on the map for us. This is a European territory. We have good relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, we have commercial interests that will aid the peaceful solution of the conflict. This is what we support”.
