Yerkir union of NGO’s issued a statement where it says:
Georgia, including Javakhk region (populated with Armenians) is preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections, to be held on October 1, 2012.
The electoral process in Javakhk is organized by Georgian authorities, who violate Javakhi citizens’ civil rights.
Georgian authorities don’t let the Javakhki citizens to have own political parties, in order to nominate candidates and vote for them, who can somehow support their civil rights. They are always pressing the Armenian populated district. With these rules, which are in the district, Georgian authorities don’t give chance to Javakhki citizens the opportunity to fully participate in the election process and vote for their candidate.
But sill, the Javakhki citizens must use all their opportunities to solve the political, civic, religious, linguistic, educational and cultural issues, which they are facing now.
Javakhki-Armenians must require all the candidates, both from the opposition and authorities, to solve their problems after coming to the power.
They are especially concerned about the following issues:
Georgian authorities must not control the social and political life of Javakhki-Armenians
To stop persecutions agains Javakhki-Armenians national political figures.
Immediately to set free Vahagn Chakhalyan and other political prisoners of Javakhki-Armenians.
Armenian language should get the status of regional language in Javakhk.
In Georgia’s Armenian schools there should more Armenian language lessons.
