“Switzerland can have no influence on Armenia-Hungary negotiations, because it is not Hungary who needs negotiation. It took that naïve step and Safarov is already in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani government will in no case sent back Safarov, no one can influence Azerbaijan including Swiss government,”- said the co-president of Switzerland-Armenia company Sargis Shirinyan in the interview with “First News and Analysis” referring to the news that Switzerland is going to mediate to assist to the reconstruction of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Hungary.
According to him what happened is a problem connected to Hungary and Azerbaijan, a crime was committed, and the murderer was extradited and made a hero for unknown reasons. The guilty party is Hungary and the sinner is Azerbaijan. “We must have acted instead of sleeping on all the levels.”
To the question what preconditions Armenia must present in front of Hungary for restarting diplomatic relations, Shahinyan answered: “We have missed the boat. May this be a lesson for us to know how to act in the future.”
We remind that the Hungarian FM Yanosh Martoni had said that during his visit to Switzerland his Swiss colleague Didie Burkhalter offered his help to regain relations with Armenia. “Hungary has accepted Switzerland’s offer to smooth the relations with Armenia after the conflict on Azerbaijani murderer’s extradition.” Martoni has announced.
