In case of escalation of Nakorno-Karabakh conflict, Georgia will take a neutral turn. This was reported to REGNUM news agency by the director of the Georgian Fund of Strategic and International investigations, political expert Alexander Rondeli. According to his words Tbilisi is interested in the stability and peace in the region and will make efforts not to allow such development of events.
“Georgia is against any kind of conflicts in the region and will try to avoid its appearance. We want peace and stability to be established in South Caucasus.” – said Rondeli stressing that this position is dictated not only by humanitarian aspect, but also state interests of Georgia.
To the request to say exactly to what extent Georgia is able to keep neutrality towards both parties, Rondeli noted that there is nothing ideal including military neutrality, but in any case his country will be neutral on state level.” –assured the expert.
Military neutrality includes the refusal of permitting to use that country as a transition, and this means that Armenia will be cut from its main strategic partner- Moscow. Actually, such Georgian “neutrality” will result in the blockade of Armenia and in the passive support to Azerbaijan. To such commentary of REGNUM news agency correspondent, the director of Georgian Fund of Strategic and International investigations answered: “Sure. An extremely unpleasant situation. For these very reasons I don’t enter politics. But here is a nuance, if Russian wishes to enter Armenia they will ignore everything and do what they want. Who can stop them?”
