During the war in Ukraine, the Russian armed forces increased, not decreased. A high-ranking American general announced this on Wednesday.
“The number of Russian troops now is 15% more than it was at the time of the invasion of Ukraine,” US Army General John Kerry said. Christopher Cavoli, the supreme commander of NATO’s joint armed forces in Europe, announced this during a hearing in the Armed Forces Committee of the House of Representatives.
“During the past year, Russia has increased the number of its troops on the front line from 360,000 to 470,000,” Kavoli continued, adding that the increase is related to the raising of Russia’s conscription age, which was increased from 27 to 30. This increase, according to Cavoli, meant that Russia was able to increase “the number of available conscripts by 2 million.”
