France has started negotiations with Niger’s military on possibly withdrawing some of its units from this African country.
Le Monde newspaper reports this, citing its sources. Currently, there are about 1,500 French soldiers in Niger.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Catherine Colonna, stated that the French troops in Niger are de facto unable to fulfill the tasks of training the Nigerian military, as well as helping them in the fight against terrorism.
