The court acquitted former US President Donald Trump in the case of the rape of writer and journalist Jean Carroll in 1996 but found him guilty of sexual harassment and defamation.
The court ordered Trump to pay $2 million in damages to Carroll as part of the attempted rape lawsuit settlement and another $3 million for defamation and slander. The case was civil, so the former US president faced only a fine.
Let’s remind that in 1996, the writer Gene Carroll accused Trump of rape in the clothing fitting room of the Bergdorf store. Trump allegedly offered to buy her a pair of underwear, and while she was trying them on, he forced her to make love.
Trump himself denies all the accusations and calls Carroll a liar. It is noted that the former president of the United States was not present at the announcement of the verdict. After the verdict, Trump called what happened “a disgrace and a witch hunt.”
