Russia is concerned over the tension around Lachin Corridor and will continue to contribute to resolution between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, TASS reports.
“The Russian Federation continues and intends to further continue its mediation efforts, implementing first of all the agreements which have been reached on trilateral bases,” Peskov told reporters.
He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the Lachin Corridor during the informal summit of the CIS on December 27.
“The Lachin Corridor topic was really discussed in great detail the day before yesterday between Putin and Pashinyan in Saint Petersburg, conversations on this topic will continue. We are really concerned over the tension that has occurred around Lachin Corridor,” Peskov said.
He said “the Russian side will continue its work and efforts in contacts with both Yerevan and Baku.”
Speaking about Armenian PM Pashinyan’s idea on sending international peacekeepers to Nagorno Karabakh, Peskov said “international peacekeepers can be involved if both sides of the conflict agree to it.” “It’s not just Armenia, but also Azerbaijan. Armenia is our closest ally, Azerbaijan is our very valuable and dear partner,” Peskov said.
