Today Azerbaijani First Deputy Prime Minister Yaqub Eyyubov said at the ‘Azerbaijan 2013: new targets, new success’ conference in Baku that establishing Azerbaijan’s first satellite will contribute not only to the development of the IT sector, but the economy as a whole.
According to the information, the satellite is planned to be launched in the first half of 2013.
Eyubov stressed the achievements in all sectors of the economy, mainly the fact that Azerbaijan has fully ensured its energy security and turned from an importer to an energy exporter.
“Around 135 billion euros have been invested in the country’s economy since 2004,” deputy prime minister said.
The satellite will be launched into geostationary orbit 46 degrees east longitude and is leased from Malaysia’s Measat Satellite Systems. Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North Africa will be included in the service area of Azerspace.
