Before coming to power political party “Georgian Dream” declared a desire to “update” the relationship with Russia. Now, being the ruling party, the block of Ivanishvili created the post of special representative for foreign policy with Russia, however, as stated in an interview Maya Panjikidze, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia: “Russia has reacted coolly, waiting for concrete action from Georgia.”
Georgian side believes that the establishment of a new office in itself is already a concrete step.
“In the relationships with Russia, we will strictly observe the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, and are going to demand to stop the occupation of some parts of the country. At the same time, we understand that the Russian market is of paramount importance for Georgia and will do everything to resume the political dialogue.” said the MP.
Georgian politician does not exclude the possible cooperation on foreign policy with the current president Mikheil Saakashvili.
“The country is sure to continue the same course towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as no Georgian government can ignore the desire of the Georgian people to join the EU and NATO”, – says Panjikidze.
