Russian REGNUM, citing the announcement of Eldar Sabiroglu, head of the press service of Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry, reports that Azerbaijan won’t let an “illegal” operation of the airport in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Azerbaijan has commented on the issue. We still haven’t our opinion towards it. In case Armenia “breaks” that law, it will face problems” said Sabiroglu.
Maharram Safarli, head of the press service “Azerbaijani Airlines” AZAL, said that airspace of Nagorno-Karabakh is a military zone, and use of civil aviation is prohibited.
According to him, if Armenian side carries out civil flights in Nagorno-Karabakh then it violates the Chicago Convention of 1944.
“Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan’s territory and its airspace belongs to Azerbaijan” said Safarli.
Safarli noted that high officials of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), this year have twice applied to the Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Administration and declared that Armenians didn’t have any certificate for organizing such flights.
