The US ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy, issued an official statement regarding the fact that Washington shared intelligence information about a terrorist threat with Moscow.
“I want to state clearly that the United States unconditionally condemns terrorism in all its forms. We remember that after the terrorist attacks of September 11, Russia was the first to contact the USA. From our country’s own experience in combating terrorism, we have adopted a “duty to warn” policy that allows us to release information when there is a threat to civilians. Moreover, not only with allies but also with those countries with which we can have deep disagreements, including Russia,” Lynne Tracy reminded.
The US ambassador emphasized that the United States has shared threat intelligence with Russian authorities for years and will continue to do so.
“Unfortunately, several Russian officials have misrepresented and publicly denied the usefulness of information that the US government provided to Russian security services about the Islamic State threat earlier this month. The written information delivered to the Russian authorities was specific, timely, and reliable,” the ambassador said.
