French President Emmanuel Macron received the journalists of “Le Point” newspaper in the Breganson castle to give an extensive interview. During the interview, he touched on geopolitics.
“We will have to rebuild the geopolitical architecture of Europe. We do not close the door to Russia, although the latter has provoked “the return of territorial war”, Macron emphasized.
Referring to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the French Prime Minister noted that France exerts pressure on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue to guarantee humanitarian access but refused to call the crimes committed against Armenians “genocide.”
“Our diplomacy is clear, but now is not the time for diplomacy. I regret and condemn that blockade. We have always said that we stand by the sovereignty of peoples. The issue of Nagorno-Karabakh is complicated, including from the point of view of the legitimacy of the peoples. I cannot repeat the strongest positions expressed on this matter. France has clearly condemned the 2020 war and organized many humanitarian actions. Today, we are doing everything possible to find an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan that will allow us to establish lasting peace. The peace treaty is a necessity, but it must comply with international law,” Macron said.
The French President emphasized that they are dealing with an unacceptable humanitarian situation, especially around the Lachine Corridor. “France’s role is to maintain pressure for humanitarian access, and we are doing our best in that direction. In particular, we continue to take initiatives to deliver food and medicine to Nagorno Karabakh and maintain free access there. In addition, Armenia’s own borders are also at risk today,” Macron said.
