European Pravda reports that in a joint statement, the foreign ministers of the three Baltic countries warned Georgia about the need to adhere to the principles of democracy if Georgia wants to move forward in the process of joining the EU and NATO.
Latvian Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevich, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis published the text of the same message on their Twitter pages, where they expressed serious concern regarding the adoption of the law on so-called “foreign agents” in the first reading.
“If Georgia wants to move forward in the EU and NATO, it must adhere to the principles of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights,” the ministers of the three states said.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, the Georgian parliament unexpectedly adopted the law on “foreign agents” in the first reading, similar to the Russian legislation aimed at limiting Western influence. All this caused spontaneous protests and clashes near the parliament, during which the police used tear gas and water cannons.
