The authorities of RA have announced several times about Armenia following the path to European Union and Euro integration. At the same time PAP, the second leading power of Armenia according to parliamentary elections, organized Eurasian Youth assembly which will take place from August 22 till 27 in Tsakhkadzor with Gagik Tsarukyan’s sponsorship.During the assembly the integration to Eurasian Union will be discussed.
ANC MP Hrant Bagratyan said in the interview with “1in.am News and Analysis” that there is a discrepancy between membership in Euro integration and Eurasian Union. If we take Eurasian Union as a Customs Union, we will face a real conflict with Europe with simple explanation: the customs inside Eurasian Union are one from energy exporting countries which are dramatically different from that of energy importing countries. And Armenia is an energy importing one.
“In this sense if we enter Eurasian Union, if we sign a customs area document, I find it almost impossible to continue Euro integration process. Even if we manage it, it will be a fake policy. If we enter Eurasian Union with zero customs, there will be no conflict. If Armenia manages this, and if Kazakhstan, Russian Federation, Belarus change their custom system for Armenia, it will be a serious success for Armenia’s foreign policy. Otherwise Eurasian and European union contradict each other”.
H. Bagratyan reminded that this was the cause that in 1990 Armenia didn’t join the Customs Union.
“Signing a certain document would mean to deny partnership with the other party”,mentioned H.Bagratyan.
