The deputy president of the NA Eduard Sharmazanov in the interview told the PAP decision caught some ANC members in shock. As he stated the ANC aim was to gain political credits on behalf of the PAP but now they are in a deadlock. The decision stopped the ANC opposition movement and today the ANC has to do concrete steps about it. To the question whether the ANC candidate Ter-Petrosyan will be nominated Sharmazanov responded that Ter-Petrosyan is a clever politician and will not step twice in the same river. As Sharmazanov sees, Ter-Petrosyan wants to silently and without major confrontation leave the political field. Besides, he does not already have the resources he used to have back in 2008 which do not reject even some ANC members.
Sharmazanov also stated he never understood the concept of a joint candidate because it is impossible to imagine a multilayer opposition coming up with a concrete figure who will be able to represent all the views both the extreme nationalists and the extreme liberals propose. ANC is a multilayer opposition and it becomes clear that it approaches its end already.
Sharmazanov also mentioned that the PAP leader’s withdrawal will not mean a withdrawal from the upcoming political processes and despite the fact that the Pap members said they will not support any power in the elections, they not once stated during different meetings that they would like to see the incumbent president re-elected. Thus, even though the PAP has not made a decision to support a concrete candidate or a power, people are free to choose whoever they want to and that the RP plans do not depend on any decision outside the RP.
