Musa Mikayelyan in his political analysis highlights the importance of Putin-Sargsyan meeting behind the closed doors which took place in Ashkhabad, within the frames of CIS summit. Mikayelyan says no video or photo was taken during the meeting and all is known is that the two presidents discussed matters of strategic importance for both sides.
Mikayelyan states there is an important factor working for Russia lately and it is the Eurasian integration process. As a matter of fact, the press secretary to the president of the RF announced Russia will encourage Turkey to become a member of the Customs union. Mikayelyan reminded that Putin was in Turkey just before the Ashkhabad summit and his step to engage Turkey in these processes too can be considered nothing but a moral imposing over Armenia. Putin has calculated the time too – just before the presidential elections in Armenia.
This phenomenon is an imitation of power over Armenia which Russia will demonstrate to make Sargsyan go for certain compromises in the presidential elections.
Serzh Sargsyan’s condition is hard in this situation. He looks to the West, but does not have enough financing from that side to support a sustainable economy in the country, but neither does Moscow have any intention to finance Armenia. If Sargsyan is in a hard state, Armenia is in a double hard state because no matter which one of the two sides Sargsyan chooses, no significant issues will be solved for Armenia in the near future.
