According to Armenia’s National Statistical Service data, it became clear that foreign investment in Armenia has fallen by about 40 percent. However, reporter Eghiazar Aytaptsi writes in his political analyses that in this context there are very interesting movements in positive direction and adds that in the volume of foreign investments in our country suddenly Canada became a leader. That country invested in January-September period about 100 million. The reporter of “First News and Analyses” connects the increase of the Canadian investments with the name of the third president of Armenia Robert Kocharian, as he was in Canada for a long time.
“When we compare Robert Kocharian’s new “direction” with the growth of Canadian investment, then we get probably a unique image, especially in the case that investments are directed almost entirely to the mining sector. The point is that, according to the press reports of various years, he was one of the officials involved in this field. On the other hand, of course, the connection of the former President and Canadian investments is not officially endorsed.” says the article.
Ayntaptsi notes that there is nothing bad even if there is any connection, as any investment is beneficial for Armenia. “Moreover, Rober Kocharian is a former official, and the law does not prevent him to be engaged in business, to attract investments in Armenia. After concealing his position, Robert Kocharyan did not hide his business activities. In this case, one things remains- to be surprised with the quick passing from presidency to business.”
As for Canadian investments, reporter notes that they come directly to the mining industry, an area where there are no random people, only former or current officials. Ayntaptsi concludes with the circulating statement that uterus in Armenia is one of the most shady areas, where the owners receive super profit.
