In his interview with Interfax, Tigran Sargsyan also referred to the Georgian-Abkhazian railway reopening and stated its significance for the export facilitation to Russia. Sargsyan mentioned that in the current geopolitical state Armenia is in where 2 borders are blocked by Azerbaijan and Turkey, every single possibility of transportation logistics is an opportunity to foster industry development.
When asked whether Armenia shall not participate as a mediator to this issue the PM stated no such discussions were on the agenda and time is needed to see which solution is the best. Armenia will function with “do not hurt” principle, the PM mentions. Sargsyan also spoke about the Yerevan-Batumi road construction and stated that this will be a North-South roadway and will be carried out with the support of Asian Bank granting $500 million loan program.
Sargsyan concluded these high speed roads are of great significance to Armenia since the latter never had any that would correspond to the international standards. Sargsyan said the general expenses will be $1.5 billion and that the money is justified by the high technology solutions the roads will possess.
