The RA president Serzh Sargsyan at the invitation of Lebanese President Michel Suleiman will visit Lebanon on November 26-27. Among series of meetings President Serzh Sargsyan met with the head of Lebanon’s parliament and deputies on November 27. However, the Parliament Speaker Nabih Barry canceled the meeting, scheduled on Friday, which was supposed to take place in honor of Serzh Sargsyan, and clarified that luncheon will be given instead. He explained that the change of the agenda by the fact that many of the ministers and members will take part in the official appointment ceremony of Cardinal Patriarch Beshara in Vatican.
Earlier the vice-president of the central administration of Beirut Hunchakian Party Sepuh Kalpakyan noted that there may be a problem during the RA President’s visit to Lebanon. “The problem is that the Lebanese Parliament is divided between the two parties- factions of “March 8 “and” March 14″ . After the recent events in Lebanon, deputies of “March 14”, including me, are boycotting NA sessions. Two of Armenian deputies are representative of “March 8” power, and the other four members of “March 14”, including me. Therefore, if the president is to visit the Parliament, we will have difficulty to be present.”
Today, he told “First News and Analyses” that Speaker of Parliament understood that out of the 128 deputies there will be present only 30-35, one-third of the members, at the Hall for Serzh Sargsyan’s speech, and spread such a statement. Sepuh Kalpakyan approved the Speaker’s decision, saying that it would not be appropriate because of the internal political problems to show disrespectful attitude towards RA President in the Lebanese Parliament.
Note that the internal tension in Lebanon was set up on October 19 as a result of the blast in the eastern part of Beirut.
