Interlocutor of the “First News and Analyses” was political analyst, vice-president of “Free Democrats” party Anush Sedrakyan.
Apparently, in the upcoming presidential election “Free Democrats” will nominate a woman as a presidential candidate for the first time in Armenia. And the question was whether there is any other feature in the application of “Free Democrats”, apart from this fact, that the candidate is a woman.
“The explicit feature is the full integration process of liberal values. Our greatest advantage is that we do not have declarative showcase, behind which are hidden our liberal values, domestic interests, and intrigues. Started from the style of our party discussions, ended with the preferences of the administration, as well as our ordinary members, include the priorities of liberal values, moreover, they can sound not so European, but the content remains the same.”
To the question whether nomination of a woman can shape the policy of a new political culture in Armenia, and on which stage is the question of the nomination, Mrs. Sedrakyan noted that the issue is still being discussed.
“As you can see, the clarification of Armenia’s political field stretches to the end, and if such a situation is created where the electoral mechanisms give way to much more rigid mechanisms, we will just not endanger our liberal values, since this case has absolutely no sense of participation.” said Anush Sedrakyan, and added, “When we talk about a woman candidate, two factors need to be distinguished. It is new in Armenia but it is not an unpleasant one, because there has been a change in the thinking.”
Commenting on the question where “Free Democrats” party finds itself, when no political party have been able to avoid appearing under the range of this or that political force, she said, “I would like to present the ruling powers to represent their political platforms and explain what ideological differences have that political platforms, on which takes place their rapture. Recently, there has been an attempt to politicize the process.”
