Trend reports that a team of mountaineers was rescued in the Mestia district of Georgia on Saturday.
Two Poles and one Austrians accompanied by an instructor were making the ascent of Mount Ushba. A Polish climber had his hands and feet frozen, which made it impossible for the team to proceed.
A rescue helicopter arrived. The frost-bitten man was rushed to a hospital. Doctors told reporters that the climber was delivered to the hospital in critical condition, with symptoms of bilateral pneumonia. Despite the patient’s condition is serious, it is stable.
Peak Ushba rising 4,700 m above sea level is a popular tourist site, but the ascent can be dangerous.
Two Polish climbers died there in 2005, and last month, two Ukrainians lost their lives on its treacherous slopes.
