After the Parliamentary elections on May 6, the position of the Mayor of Talin was left vacant because the Mayor Mnacakan Mnacakanyan was elected MP by majoritarian electoral system.
Today in the town Talin, Aragatsotn Region, the elections of Mayor and the City Council will take place. The candidates for the position of Mayor are 5 – Republican Sargis Aramyan, PAP member Vazgen Khachatryan , Edward Grigoryan, Vorosh Khachatryan and Gagik Karapetyan, who 3 are independent candidates.
But the pre-electoral situation is tense as the authoritative sector, ARP, is divided into two parts. On July 26 the deputy president of ARP Hovik Abrahamyan and some other high-ranked republicans have met the members of ARP’s Talin branch and decided to support the Republican Sargis Aramyan.
On the other hand, though being a member of the Republican Party, the MP Mnacakan Mnacakanyan does not support the candidate run by his party. Moreover, according to some citizens of Talin, he supports Vorosh Khachatryan.
This was dissatisfying for the other part of ARP, some Talinians say, and as a result of this, the governor of Aragatsotn Sargis Sahakyan dismissed Mnakacakan Mnacakanyn’s wife Tamara Gevorgyan from the position of director of Medical centre.
In the interview with “1in.am News and Analysis Sargis Sahakyan said: “Tamara Gevorgyan was dismissed because of bad work and there is no political pretext there.” To the question whether this position abuses have not been noticed before the elections, he said that check-up was realized only a month ago.
The MP Mnacakan Mnacakanyan referring to the Governor’s words told to “1in.am News and Analysis” that if the governor said so, he could not say anything else. It is up to him to decide whether the dismissal has political pretext or not”.
Speaking about today’s elections he said that he does not support anybody. Mnacakan Mnacakanyan assured that he supports the one who the people will choose: “I have said I will support people. The candidate chosen by the people will be the most accepted for me.” – elaborated Mnacakan Mnacakanyan.
The Governor of Aragatsotn was sure in the republican Sargis Aramyan’s victory.
