Aravot writes that Garnik Isagulyan, president of “National Security” party, had a “face to face” meeting with Stepan Safaryan, General Secretary of “Heritage” faction, and discussed the upcoming presidential elections.
According to Isagulyan, the political parties don’t announce about their decision on upcoming presidential elections since they don’t want to be in the center of the attention so early.
Safaryan thinks that the reason is connected with inner problems.
Isagulyan said that it is natural that the ruling party talked about its candidate a year before the election, since Sargsyan can be nominated and they can freely talk about it, but the other political parties don’t want to be in the center of the attention and still don’t announce about their decision.
However, according to Safaryan, this is the first time in Armenia’s history that the nomination of a political figure is announced so early.
Note, already in 2011 it was known that Serzh Sargsyan, current Armenian president, is going to be nominated for the upcoming elections.
The sides stressed that the upcoming elections are going to determine the situation in 2018.
