The United States Government will spend around $2 million for the parliamentary election in Georgia. It is going to fund two organizations – the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) – for ensuring a free and fair environment during the polls, the Georgian news website Apsny.ge reported, citing the US ambassador in Tbilisi. Additionally, the country will send to the country more observers from both organizations on the voting day.
The ambassador said that they are not assisting any political party or an individual candidate in this manner, the assistance being aimed only at developing a democratic culture in Georgia.
The Central Election Commission of Georgia has determined this amount to prepare and conduct elections, scheduled for October 1.The CEC of Georgia went to the emergency mode of operation, beginning to create electoral commissions in 73 districts after the election date announcement.
