With Bidzina Ivanishvili Georgia will become less ideological and more pragmatic, reports REGNUM news agency linking to the words of the director of Caucasus Institute, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan.
“The president Mikheil Saakashvili had certain ideological trend to lead Georgia away from Caucasus to Atlantic Ocean. He didn’t take Georgia as a Caucasian state, but as a western one which lacks backlash for maneuvering.”- announced Isknadaryan. He noted that Saakashvili was not only severely westernized but had also anti-church post. “The matters are opposite with Ivanishvili, he is more conservative which may be reflected on Armenians. Georgia will become less consolidated and more pragmatic in the region.
Ivanishvili will try to normalize relations with Russia opening the borders, which may lead to quite interesting results. In opposite to Armenia, the closing of the borders in Georgia didn’t lead to the exportation of the unemployed, people having small-sized business and the villagers losing their bread didn’t have the chance to leave the country, and Ivanishvili took advantage of their protest. This will in its turn influence Armenia. When Georgia comes to have complementary politics, new opportunities will be created.”- added the expert.
Iskandaryan disagreed that vote-swags were excluded in Georgian elections saying that swags were spread all over the country and the source was the state budget. But people realized that they will be hard in being suppressed.
The expert noted that there are still powers in Georgia that will try to destabilize parliament. “A war of incriminating evidence. The parliament will change the government in parallel with Saakashvili’s leave which will lead to some tension in the country.”
