Turkey’s Cabinet is now finalizing the law that was adopted by Parliament in May, which bans the citizens of six countries; Armenia, Cuba, Nigeria, North Korea, Syria and Yemen, from buying real estate in Turkey, reports “Sabah” newspaper. There is given no explanation about why these countries are in so called “black list”.
The publisher of California Courier Harut Sassounian writes in Artsakh Today that this law proves once again the hostile Turkish policy, their attitude towards Armenia.
Mr. Sassounian believes the Armenian Parliament should consider adopting retaliatory measures against citizens of Turkey interested in purchasing Armenian properties.
Some years ago only 53 countries could do investments in Turkey, but now the number of it has reached up till 129, which adds even more conspiracy to the adopted law. Some of the new countries which are allowed to invest in Turkey have to face few limitations.
For example, citizens of China, Denmark, and Israel can by a flat or a house. Citizens of Russia and Ukraine can by real estate everywhere they want except in the places near the Black sea. Citizens of Albania can buy a flat but can’t get land. 16 other countries, including Iran, Pakistan and India can’t get any real estate in Turkey until they get permission from the Ministry of Internal affairs.
Since in the former Armenian government had accepted a law that there shouldn’t be any limitations concerning buying real estate in Armenia, it creates a problem now. Who has got real estates in Armenia, how much they have, what do they do with it? The most important question is how many Turkish people have real estate here in Armenia. Important steps should be taken to solve this problem.
Mr. Sassounian believes that in response to the Turkish law which doesn’t allow any Armenian to buy a real estate in Turkey, Armenia must immediately adopt a new law that will stop Turkish buying real estates in Armenia, this what should Armenia do.
“Armenians shouldn’t be very concerned that they cannot buy lands in Turkey, hopefully one day they will get back their lands without paying for them”, concludes the publisher.
