Azerbaijani Deputy Industry and Energy Minister Natig Abbasov told country’s media that capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, which transports gas from the Shah Deniz field, will be increased up to 65 billion cubic meters per year.
“An agreement has been reached with BP to increase capacity of the gas pipeline first to 35 billion cubic meters per year, and later to 65 billion cubic meters,” said Abbasov and added “ it will increase Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring energy security of Europe”.
The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (South Caucasian gas pipeline) is over 700 km. The gas produced from the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via the pipeline. The gas is supplied to Georgia and Turkey. Azerbaijan also appears as the buyer of gas.
