Today ANC (Armenian National Congress) MP Aram Manukyan inquired from the minister of education and science whether he is aware that out of 1400 school directors 1150 are ARP (Armenia’s Republican Party) members. “There must be certain direction in state policy. Public education must be devoid of party elements. You yourself have said that schools are not political arenas.”
Armen Ashotyan noted that the question is from Raffi Hovhannisyan’s agenda directed to the president. “Our schools do not belong to any party. The directors are partisans as citizens. I am against limitations, which are not included in educational law. No law bans school directors, teachers or students to be partisans. Nobody has tried to give legal solution to the problem. There is no project on making directors non-partisan.”- said Ashotyan adding that being ARP member is not a privilege, but duty.”
