Georgian media, citing the announcement of Georgian Defense Ministry, reports that Dimitri Shashkin, Minister of Defense of Georgia, is in the U.S. on an official visit with the purpose of military cooperation between Georgia and the United States.
Shashkin has already met with Senators David Vitter, James Inhofe, Congressmen Joe Wilson and Rob Whitman.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the six-point agreement on expanding military collaboration between the two countries was discussed during the meetings.
Minister Shashkin said that the implementation of the six-point agreement of the Georgian-American military cooperation entered a new phase.
“Implementation of the six-point agreement will play an important role in strengthening the defense, security and stability of Georgia. After the implementation of the agreement Georgia will be protected in all three directions: air, sea and land,” said the minister.
The team of U.S. experts will arrive in Georgia in September in order to train the Georgian military engineers.
