Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke about Sweden’s NATO membership and Turkey-EU relations at a briefing held in Istanbul before participating in the NATO summit in Vilnius.
“In order to advance the process of Stockholm’s application for NATO membership, it is necessary to fulfill all the provisions of the tripartite memorandum (Turkey-Sweden-Finland),” Erdogan said.
Erdogan connected the subject of the Stockholm application with the dialogue on Turkey’s accession to the European Union. “First open the way for Turkey to join the EU, then we will pave the way for Sweden’s membership, as we did in the case of Finland,” Erdogan said.
