The deputy commander of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, General Sergey Surovikin, knew in advance that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the commander of “Wagner” mercenaries, was planning an uprising against the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry. The New York Times wrote about it.
The newspaper cited U.S. officials familiar with the intelligence and said they were trying to learn whether former Russian commander-in-chief in Ukraine Sergei Surovikin helped plan Prigozhin’s actions.
