Titus Corlățean pointed out the special role of Armenians in the political and social life of Romania

On May 29, a delegation led by the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations chairman, Sargis Khandanyan, who was in Bucharest on a working visit, met in the Romanian Senate.

The RA NA delegation, which includes the Chairman of the Standing Committee on State-Legal Affairs of the National Assembly, Vladimir Vardanyan, and the member of the Armenia-Romania Friendship Group, Arsen Torosyan, met with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy Affairs, Titus Corlățean and members of the committee, as well as the Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the Senate, Vasile Dincu. And with other members of the commission.

During the meeting with Titus Corlățean, chairman of the Senate Foreign Policy Committee, the head of the NA delegation, Sargis Khandanyan, emphasized the unique role of Romania in the life of the Armenian people, noting that Romania was one of the countries that gave shelter to many Armenians who escaped the genocide. He also emphasized Romania’s key role in deploying the EU civil observation group on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.

Titus Corlățean also pointed out the unique role and significant contribution of Armenians in Romania’s political and public life, emphasizing the active activity of Varuzhan Pambukchyan, the representative of national minorities in the parliament.

The regional security challenges, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the humanitarian situation, the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations on the “Peace Treaty,” and the normalization of relations with Turkey were discussed during the meeting. EU involvement in these processes has become critical. The parties also discussed the prospects for the development of Armenia-EU relations.

During the meeting with Vasile Dincu, the chairman of the European affairs committee of the Romanian Senate, the possibilities of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation, involving Armenia in EU projects, and using the existing potential in the fields of economy, culture, and education were thoroughly discussed.
