Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law canceling the Treaty on Armed Forces in Europe.
The CSDP, which the State Duma voted to withdraw from, was signed in Paris in 1990 by 16 NATO countries and 6 Warsaw Pact countries. The document set limits on the continent’s armaments.
After the termination of the Warsaw Pact, the former countries of the Pact and several republics of the USSR joined NATO. As a result, the alliance increased restrictions.
1999 the adaptation agreement was signed, but none of the NATO countries ratified it. As a result, Russia stopped participating in the treaty in 2007. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that the agreement is outdated and has become a relic of the past.
