It is known that on August 8 the RF President Putin invited Serzh Sargsyan to Moscow. The invitation was unexpected by itself- the President had to spoil his vacation for this visit. “1in.am News and Analyses” was informed about this from the expert of “the Armenian Center for Political and International Studies” Ruben Mehrabian, who analyzed the significance of the meeting and the possibility of raising some questions.
Taking into account the EU-Armenia rapprochement during the last month, Russia obliges Armenia to make a choice between the EurAsEC and the EU, particularly in such a way that it will be impossible for Armenia to refuse the proposal, because Russia uses all types of pressure available for Russia.
Mehrabian believes that a serious challenge is thrown to Armenia’s leadership, and there isn’t an option to bypass it.
“The conversations of a number of political forces that it is possible to combine both the EU’s rapprochement and the Union of Putin’s rapprochement, Ukraine experience has shown that it is not possible. It is impossible, and if anyone says the contrary, he deliberately throws public into confusion: it is impossible to overlook, “commented Ruben Mehrabian, adding that we must make a choice.
According to him, if the leaders of Armenia are going to proceed and lead the country at the direction of Europe, the only ally is the society of Armenia, Armenia’s civil society, on basis of which the way to Europe is possible.
The answer to the question what would be the choice, however, he answered that it is difficult to predict what the decision will be -the accepter is and will be President Serzh Sargsyan because he is politically responsible for the general election.
