The results of media monitoring project in Georgia showed that the mass media in the country is rather polarized. This conclusion made the head of EU Delegation to Georgia Philip Dimitrov on the project, which was carried out from May 11 to October 15 by the Program of the United Nations and the European Union.
The project, according to its organizers, was to ensure the information transparency of media owners in Georgia, increasing professionalism of the media, the introduction of “must carry” principle.
Results of the study of the state of the media showed that they are quite polarized; the state of the media is far from perfect, advertising market requires immediate response.
Dimistrov noted that monitoring will continue until the end of next year and will cover the presidential elections, which will be held in October 2013. He expressed readiness to provide support to improve Georgia’s media and solve the existing problems in this area.
The result of the project, according to its organizers, must be functioning really free media in Georgia that will serve the interests of the people.
