“In general, any negotiation is more acceptable than military operations.” Seyran Ohanyan, the leader of the NA “Armenia” faction, announced this today during the parliamentary briefings, responding to the observations that negotiations with German mediation cannot be effective.
According to Ohanyan, the interruption of negotiations since 2018 led to the war of 2020. “Contacts are important in that respect. But based on their statements, they agreed to express themselves with ceremonial words and continue the negotiations. It is unclear what those principles are and the order of the questions.”
The head of the faction, referring to the question of mediation’s effectiveness, noted Azerbaijan’s statement that mediators are not needed. Ohanyan says they are trying to put pressure on the Armenian authorities alone. On the other hand, they cunningly use both the Western and the post-Soviet platforms to advance their interests. “For our interests, we have friendly countries on the Western platform, but no country can support us on the ground, except for a partial observation mission,” Ohanyan said, stressing that expecting a global result from these negotiations is not encouraging.
