In his microblog for X, Edmon Marukyan, Ambassador with Special Assignments of Armenia, referred to the peace negotiations with Azerbaijan and, in this context, yesterday’s statements of the President of Azerbaijan.
“2022 In March, Azerbaijan proposed five fundamental principles on which the peace treaty with Armenia should be based: mutual recognition by states of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inseparability of their international borders, and political independence from each other.
Mutual confirmation of the absence of territorial claims against each other by states and acceptance of a legal obligation that such claims will not be made in the future.
Refrain from threatening each other’s security in interstate relations, threats, and the use of force against political independence and territorial integrity, as well as other circumstances inconsistent with the goals of the UN Charter.
Demarcation and demarcation of the state border; establishment of diplomatic relations.
Opening transport communications, creating other relevant communications, and establishing cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
Even though the mentioned principles were addressed during the negotiations, including publicly, Azerbaijan avoided signing the peace agreement and constantly presented new demands throughout the negotiations, thereby torpedoing the peace process.
Also yesterday, Azerbaijani President Aliyev announced that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan could be established only after Armenia changes its constitution and domestic legislation, thus officially raising a completely new precondition.
As they say, “appetite opens while eating,” and these endless demands prove only one thing: Azerbaijan does not want peace in the region or to sign a peace treaty with Armenia, thus trying to fool the entire international community.”
